Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) Men’s Case Manager (MCM) provides family violence case management and case coordination to men from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) who are identified as using family violence or are impacted by family violence. Using a strengths-based approach, the MCM will undertake comprehensive needs and risk assessments of men and their families. The MCM will work collaboratively with Aboriginal men and their families to address family violence, promote perpetrator responsibility, strengthen individuals and their communities and reduce barriers to behaviour change.
A key focus of the role is to work in collaboration with other BWAHS programs, other Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO’s), the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Family Violence Partnership and external support services to ensure a comprehensive integrated case plan is developed and implemented. Although the position has a home base in Lilydale, this is an outreach position and the delivery service is using that model.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Case Management
Provide a culturally appropriate outreach service to a full case load of Aboriginal men referred to the Men’s Case Management Program.
Support clients to identify their safety and support needs and assist them in developing a personal support plan to address priorities for themselves and their families.
Provide case management and effective case coordination that reduces barriers for men in accessing behaviour change services.
Actively promote responsibility and accountability for the clients’ use of violence.
Put in place such steps, or make appropriate referrals, as required to immediately secure the safety of families.
Engagement of Key Stakeholders
Develop and maintain positive relationships with other Family Violence services including Men’s Behaviour Change programs and other government and community organisations to ensure multidisciplinary interventions as required.
Culturally Informed Practice
Contribute to culturally informed practice.
Contribute to a positive and culturally safe workplace.
Manage Risk
Undertake Family Violence Risk assessments to establish levels of safety and risk to the men’s families referred to the program.
Undertake ongoing analysis of the family’s safety and wellbeing including an analysis of family capacity to maintain safety for children in the family.
Lead and participate in Risk Management Meetings within BWAHS.
Training and Professional Development / Capability Development
Participate in regular clinical supervision as negotiated with the Men’s Therapeutic Coordinator.
Undertake training and professional development opportunities.
Complete compulsory training listed in the training check list such as MARAM, FV Foundation and Working with Men who use Violence.
Administration
Maintain records including case notes, reports, plans and statistics within required timelines including data and reports required to meet BWAHS contractual obligations.
Ensure that client records are in accordance with BWAHS quality and audit requirements.
Comply with and report upon all funding agencies data recording requirements, accurately and in a timely manner.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
An understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and the history of intergenerational trauma as it relates to the role of men in the family unit.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant work experience, meeting Recommendation 209.
Experience working in the family violence sector, risk assessment and managing risk in a related area.
An understanding of sharing information legislation and the duty of care .
Theoretical understanding of the the issues underpinning family violence, particularly as it relates to the cultural context of men who use violence.
Experience in providing case management or case coordination with Aboriginal families or men.
Ability to engage men and their families of varying ages, stages and compositions who have multiple and complex needs.
Understanding of State and Regional Aboriginal Family violence strategies and frameworks.
Possess basic computer skills including Outlook and Word. Experience with or a willingness to learn data reporting applications will be looked upon favourably.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

POSITION SUMMARY – Part Time – 0.8 FTE
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
The Education Liaison Officer is a newly developed role that will provide support for First Nations learners (children and young people) in government learning and education spaces to have improved wellbeing and learning outcomes.
This role will work with First Nations Learners to develop learning and wellbeing plans to assist them to engage or reengage with school and have improved learning outcomes. The ELO will work with existing support structures such as Koori Education Support Officers and develop key relationships with local ACCO’s, schools, families and other support services in order to get the best outcomes for the learners that they are working with. A key feature of this role will be the child and youth centered nature of the plans as well as targeted group delivery that is designed and facilitated to meet these needs.
This role would suit an organised person with strong cultural connections and a passion for education. This role requires high level communication and relationship development skills and the ability to work with people across a range of different roles, especially children and young people. The successful candidate will need to be organized and able to work independently as well as create relationships to be a key member of the team.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Provide individual support and planning to First Nations learners.
Work with families, school staff, students to facilitate the best outcomes for First Nations learners in government schools.
Undertake project planning for and implement activities relating to the delivery of this project and project outcomes.

POSITION SUMMARY – Full Time

The Intensive Case Manager (ICM) program is based in the inner and outer Eastern Metropolitan Regions (EMR). The Intensive Case Management Practitioner role is a 12 month fixed term position and provides family violence case management support and case coordination to Aboriginal women and their children affected by family violence. Utilising a strengths-based approach, the practitioner conducts comprehensive needs and risk assessments for women and their children. The role has an emphasis in promoting cultural safety, healthy family functioning, safety from violence, overall security and the stability and development of Aboriginal children and young people. This position collaborates closely with Aboriginal families and communities to enhance child, family and community capacity.
The Intensive Case Management Practitioner works in partnership with the Senior Case Manager to address the health, well-being and safety needs of clients, and is responsible for screening, assessment, triage and short-term support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and families, ensuring the provision of comprehensive services.
Using a strengths-based approach, this role also provides support and specialised knowledge to the broader Intensive Case Management team to improve responses to housing challenges faced by community members. Additionally, the practitioner will build key networks with refuge providers, housing services and housing and homelessness support programs to secure sustainable, affordable housing solutions for community members served by BWAHS.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Case Management
Provide regular and ongoing contact with women and children at locations where they feel most comfortable and safe.
Coordinate casework processes from initial contact, assessment, case planning, review and exit planning.
Conduct comprehensive MARAM risk assessments during the initial assessment period and periodically as risks are identified or change.
Develop and regularly review comprehensive safety plans for women and their children.
Advocate on behalf of women and children to ensure they have access to necessary services.
Participate in local, regional and other network meetings to address issues and current initiatives related to family violence.
Collaborate with team members to promote the program, conduct presentations and engage in community education and training activities.
Lead and assist in developing and implementing new projects or initiatives to support women and children who have experienced family violence.
Engagement of Key Stakeholders
Engage with key stakeholders directly related to the case management needs of the clients and create opportunities for networking for the ICM team.

BWAHS is partnered with The Orange Door (TOD) to provide culturally informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community members affected by family violence. The Aboriginal Team Leader role is located at the TOD office in the Outer East Metropolitan Region (Croydon) and will provide intake, assessment and planning to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients.
The Aboriginal Practitioner will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality, culturally safe and effective responses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people seeking support and safety through the Orange Door. The agency provides a whole of family approach with a focus on victim/survivor safety and well-being, with supports also offered to users of violence to engage with services to address these behaviours and other support needs.
The Aboriginal Practitioner will report to the Orange Door Team Leader on a day-to-day basis with formal line management and supervision provided by BWAHS. They will also receive support and guidance from the Orange Door Aboriginal Practice Leader.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Intake and Assessment
Provide culturally safe intake, assessment and planning to women, children, families, and men seeking support through The Orange Door.
Work within a specialist discipline to deliver The Orange Door services and develop understanding, with the capability to work safely across family violence, perpetrator response and child well-being. (With appropriate training and supervision).
Deliver screening and triage, assessment, crisis response, service planning, targeted intervention, allocation and coordinated referrals, consistent with the Integrated Practice Framework, operational guidelines, service specifications and relevant risk assessment tools.
Identify, assess and prioritise the risk and needs of women and children, families and perpetrators, drawing on the expertise of different practitioners in a multi-disciplinary team.
Work collaboratively with The Orange Door team to support integrated risk assessment and planning, including participating in case conferences and meetings.
Recognise and identify the limits of your own expertise and when to seek advice or refer a client to The Orange Door specialist practitioners or Practice Leaders to ensure safe practice.
Identify when a Central Information Point (CIP) request is required and refer request to the Advanced Family Violence Practice Leader or Aboriginal Practice Leader.
Apply for brokerage funding on behalf of clients in accordance with the brokerage guidelines and as part of a clear case plan.
Engagement of Key Stakeholders
Navigate the broader service system on behalf of the clients by referring to services and providing information and support, including the strong links between The Orange Door and other BWAHS services.
Develop relationships within The Orange door and with external service providers in order to ensure quality service delivery to clients.
Work collaboratively with the Victoria Police, Child Protection and other community organisations and stakeholders.
Represent BWAHS in external networks and forums as required.
Provide consultations to colleagues within The Orange Door when Aboriginal Practice Leader is not available or when required by the Practice Lead or Practitioners.
